I wear it sometimes to remember my grandfather and always makes me a bit teary eyed when I wear it around the house. From Tabu I get a sort of moist and warm amber, spices, sweetness, an incense kind of accord, a dry and woody vetiver, mixed florals and finally, a cassis type of a slightly pissy smell. I got into vintages after exhausting the gourmand genre (haha) and I tried Youth Dew prematurely.... It's sweeter than YD, but still too musky and old/generic. The first time I put it on it was too sweet, and reminded me of toilet bowl cleaner. Then, a week later I retrieved it from the bin and gave it one more try. One spray only, but after the drydown it's quite nice. I only get a compliment when someone gets near, or close to me. After all, the same nose that created this, Jean Charles, also created Miss Dior, back in 1947.

I think its a great addition to your collection if you are interested in perfume history, plus its really cheap. In a good way, if there is such a thing as a good pissy smell. The patchouli is clearly detectable in here too, adding to the hippyish incense vibe. it was one of my first vintage blind buys and it was just waaaay too "old granny" so I sold it. (Reformulations and the drug store status/price I suppose.) As far as Tabu-type scents go, I prefer original Obsession. but here we are in winter already (November in Upper Michigan) and I LOVE BOTH NOW! I started a cozy day at home with Youth Dew cologne on my torso (finely misted), a drop of the YD bath oil on my clavicle "dip", and then about 6 hours later-- put on Tabu cologne over the whole package. I can tell I like it because I keep smelling my arm. I avoided this for the longest time, thinking this would be heavy and overpowering.

I blindbought a bottle after reading a lot of positive reviews.I went to the fragrance shops this weekend to test Tabu to see if this is really unisex...As a disclaimer, this is not a review about vintage. Especially if you like Ted Lapidus Pour Homme (the original) or Kouros (the white bottle).I want to like Tabu but on me it goes almost bitter, and too powdery. Tabu isn't Nag Champra, but it's similar with more of a root beer smell. While I am not a fragrance expert, I have been wearing fragrance almost everyday since Elementary School (yeah, I am one of those people, lol). ), baby powder (not strong though), Nag Champra Indian Incense, dirty vanilla (dirty in the best way), clove cigarettes (in the best way) and Autumn spices. I think if you like Shalimar, Giorgio Red, those types of fragrances, you might like this. Not an everyday fragrance for me, one that I have to be in the "mood" for; this is nice for say a rainy day or a Fall or snowy Winter day, that sort of thing.
